Ongebonden collection

“Ongebonden” explores the emotions behind living with, and connecting despite, fear of commitment. This seven-piece collection uses material, shape, and texture to express internal tension. The work is a thematic and conceptual continuation of my previous project Bindloos.

A deliberate contrast in materials was chosen: from extremely fragile knits to heavy, stiff fabrics. The knits represent the delicate, fleeting connections between people – something that can be undone as quickly as it forms. The thicker, more rigid fabrics symbolize the imaginary wall someone might build to protect themselves from others.

Natural latex is also a recurring material in the collection. It is a complex but fascinating substance to work with. Its symbolic meaning adds an important layer to the work: the temporary bonds that latex creates when it dries remind me of the intentionally short-lived connections that someone with commitment issues might form with others.

Color use has been an important factor in the collection. While blue represents the heavier and more difficult side of commitment issues, yellow conveys the innocence and peacefulness of a person. The contrast between the two creates a look that is both challenging and calm. This contrast manifests differently in everyone and therefore appears unique on each individual.

Exploring form through moulage and searching for coherence within each individual look.
